Rhapsody Now Works on Portables

Rhapsody, the online music service of RealNetworks, now includes MP3 player/device compatibility. Enhancements have been made to Rhapsody's portability options that allow the subscriber to transfer unlimited music to their portable devices and MP3 players. Because of this, the monthly price is increasing from $9.99 to $14.99. However, you can still get a free 14-day trial.

MusicMatch Marches On

Get unlimited access to more than 900,000 songs
I have used MusicMatch Jukebox as a media player and CD burner for at least six years. The software has evolved a lot, and now does a lot more than just play music. Their current product is called MusicMatch on Demand, and gives you access to over 900,000(!) songs for US$4.99/month, when paid annually. They offer a free one-week trial, so you can try it first before making a commitment.

eMusic.com Continues Special

You can still get 50 FREE Downloads from eMusic. Unlike iTunes and other services, these are regular, unrestricted MP3 files you can copy to any music player or computer, or use to burn CD's. Unfortuately, the major labels don't like to offer unrestricted music, so the selection of top artists isn't as good as that at iTunes. There's still a lot of good music, though, and it doesn't cost anything to try the service.

Apple's iPod is a relative newcomer, but has been so successful that many people think iPods are the only players around. Too bad, the Rio Carbon is one of the best out there.

Why File Sharing Will Continue

TechRepublic has an interesting article on why the war on file sharing is far from over. Jonathan Yarden writes, "File sharing is much like speeding: Given the opportunity, most people will chance it."
